Visitor Visa & ETA

Visitor’s visas, also known as temporary resident visas (TRV), allow foreign nationals to travel to and enter Canada. Those who are authorized to enter the land of Canada, but who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents, are considered visitors. Some of the reasons people travel variety of reasons, including:

  • Canada tourism or holidays.
  • Visiting relatives.
  • Business trips, etc.

ETA

People from Visa-free electronic travel authorization (ETA) countries do not require a visa. The visa is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. In short, it serves the same purpose as the Canada Visitor Visa. Most ETA applications are processed within a few minutes after they are submitted. You will just receive an email saying that you have been approved for an ETA.

VISITOR VISA REQUIREMENTS

Additionally, you will need to submit the following documents to apply for a tourist visa for Canada:

  • A valid travel document, such as a passport, is required.
  • In general, you should be in reasonable health.
  • Make sure you can prove to an immigration officer that you have ties to your country of origin, such as a job, home, or family. This will motivate you to return.
  • You must convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada after your visit.
  • You will need sufficient funds for your stay; the amount you will need depends on the circumstances of your stay, the length of your stay, and whether you plan to stay in a hotel or with friends.
  • A letter of invitation from someone living in Canada is also required.

Visitor Visa processing time

The Canada visitor visa processing time ranges from 8 to 40 days. However, the processing time is different depending on the country you live in. So, you will have to wait around 1 month for your Visitor Visa to be processed.

What Am I Allowed to do With a Canada Tourist Visa?

As long as you are in sound financial standing, you can travel around Canada for less than 6 months with a Canadian Tourist visa. Getting Canadian documents and staying in the country permanently are not permitted. Furthermore, you won't be allowed to work or study, nor can you apply for government health care or other benefits.
