Caregiver Program

There are several choices available to you if you are a caregiver and you want to move to Canada.

LCP (Live-In Caregiver Program)

The Live In Caregiver Program is for individuals that are already working in Canada. You are required to have at least 2 years of experience in this before you can apply.

In order to apply for permanent residency via this program, applications are required to:

  • Have 2 years of work experience in the program
  • Have an approved LCP work permit
  • Be working in Canada with an LCP work permit

Also, the caregivers need to be approved for their first LCP work permit based on an employer’s positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) application that was submitted on or before November 30, 2014.

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot is a pathway that allows eligible caregivers to get permanent residents in Canada.

In order to apply for Permanent Residency they need to have 2 years of Canadian work experience.

Please note that Caregivers with work experience in NOC 4411 (excluding foster parents) are eligible for permanent residency through the Home Child Care Provider Pilot.

Home Support Worker Pilot

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot is a pathway that allows eligible caregivers to get permanent residents in Canada.

In order to apply for Permanent Residency they need to have 2 years of Canadian work experience.

Note that caregivers who have work experience in NOC 4412 (except for housekeepers) may be eligible for permanent residency through the Home Support Worker Pilot.

Permanent Residence through the Home Child-care Provider or Home Support Worker Pilot

To be considered for permanent residence, your application will need to have at least 24 months of experience with in-home childcare or in-home support.

As part of your application for permanent residency, you will need to submit your work permit application. In return for meeting the general requirements, you will receive a temporary work permit to work in Canada, allowing you to acquire the necessary qualifications for permanent residence.

Upon receiving your open work permit, which is occupation-restricted but also allows you to work as a caregiver for any Canadian employer, along with at least 24 months of Canadian full-time work experience, you may apply for a permanent resident application.

Besides you, your family members can also immigrate to Canada.
