Super Visa

Visitors who are issued an ETA or a general visitor's visa are permitted to stay within Canada for up to six months after entering the country. It is their responsibility to apply for an extension and pay the fee if they wish to extend their stay.

The super visa, on the other hand, allows parents or grandparents to visit their family in Canada and remain for up to two years without having to renew their status every six months. The visa is valid for ten years or until the expiration date of the passport (if less than ten years) and allows for multiple entries. Applicants for the super visa must be the parents and grandparents of the person residing in Canada. The super visa is not available to dependents of parents or grandparents.

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS –

  • The applicants are not inadmissible for health or security reasons, but they may be required to meet conditions set out by the visa office through which they will be applying.
  • For parents and grandparents who have the Super Visa, the requirements are more extensive than for just the visitor visa, since they are able to stay for such long periods of time.
  • As part of the eligibility requirements for Temporary Resident Visas for Canada, applicants must undergo a medical examination to be considered for a Super visa.
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have a valid private health insurance policy with a Canadian insurance company. This must be at least one year from the date of your entry. In order to qualify for medical insurance, you must be insured for health care, hospitalization, and repatriation of at least $100,000.

Low Income Cut Off point

In order to qualify for a Super Visa, the applicant's child or grandchild must meet a minimum income threshold. Low-income cut-offs (LICOs) are these thresholds.

How long is the Super Visa Processing?

Processing of the Super Visa can take up to 45 or 50 days. In addition, depending on which country you are from, the Super visa will take a different amount of time to process.
