Bridging Open Work Permit For Permanent Residence Applicants

As long as you wait for the outcome of your permanent residence application, you can work under a bridging open work permit.

You may qualify if you applied to one of the programs listed below-

  • Permanent residence using Express Entry
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
  • Caring for children class or caring for people with high medical needs class
  • Home Child-Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot
  • Agri- food pilot
  • Quebec skilled workers

Who can apply for a BOWP-

You must meet one of the following requirements:

  • reside in Canada (excluding Quebec)
  • or
    • hold a valid work permit
    • even if your permit has expired but you maintain your employment status
    • in which case you can restore your status and receive a work permit
  • as the primary applicant for your permanent residence application
  • provided that you have submitted a complete application and passed the completeness check
  • and received an acknowledgement of receipt from us
    • We will send this letter to your account once we receive your permanent residence application
