About the Program
You can sponsor your parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada if you applied in 2020 and were invited to apply in the 2021 intake.
You must submit and review two applications to be considered for the parents and grandparents program:
- Sponsorship and
- a permanent residence application
After both applications have been approved, you'll sign an undertaking that takes effect the day the person you're sponsoring becomes a permanent resident of Canada (and their family members, if applicable).
Eligibility Requirements –
Sponsor your own parents and grandparents
- you’re invited to apply
- you’re at least 18 years old
- you live in Canada
- you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- you have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor
- to show that you have enough, you’ll have to provide your proof of income
- you may have a spouse or common-law partner co-sign to combine your incomes
- you meet all other requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations
Who you can sponsor
- If you have blood or adoption relatives, you can sponsor them.
- If your parents and grandparents divorce, you'll need separate applications. In the event that your parents or grandparents are divorced and have a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, these individuals become dependents on the application and may immigrate to Canada with your parents and grandparents if approved.
- Your siblings, half-siblings, or step-brothers and step-sisters may be included in the application if they qualify as dependent children.
- You have to meet the income requirements for everyone you wish to sponsor, including their dependants (spouse, partner, and children).
